There it was again. You’re not good enough. One of the enemy’s
lies popping in my mind as I was exiting the writer’s conference.
So subtle and crafty the enemy of our souls can be. Slithering in and penetrating the mind with
words that spring doubt, fear, and unworthiness. You can’t do it, it won’t happen to you, you will
never be (insert what applies to you). Or, maybe you’ve heard the opposite cunning words like,
You are better than they are; you can do this better than (insert someone’s name). Have you
ever heard any of these lies from the enemy? I’ve experienced hearing the crippling words
that cause feelings of unworthiness, doubt, and fear on many occasions. I used to think they
were my thoughts until the speaker shared how the enemy can get in our heads and fill our minds
with self-doubt, telling us we’re not good enough and all kinds of things. She told us to write
down five lies the enemy tries to tell us. “Ha! Easy peasy.” I thought to myself. Within seconds I
was able to pen out five lies the devil tries to craft my mind into believing. If this was a contest
to see who could write them down the fastest, I would have won! Even though this wasn’t a
contest, I gained the victory on this particular day.
A Moment of Awakening
As I wrote the five lies down on white card stock paper, my mind felt a
release. I became more aware of these lies being actual lies from the enemy
and not my very own thoughts. The enemy often tries to trick us into
believing his twisted words are our very own thoughts. I’ve been guilty of
this countless times. As I peered down at the piece of card stock, with the
enemy’s words glaring back at me, it clicked. I realized for many years I’ve
allowed him to feed me his words of untruth. This has caused me much
misery and allowing doubt to creep in. Writing them down allowed me to see
and realize these weren’t my own thoughts. These were lies from the devil. It was an awakening
moment for me.
Jesus, Our Greatest Example
Jesus is the greatest example of how we should live. Since I became more
aware of the how the enemy likes to trick our mind’s into believing his lies,
I knew just what to do to combat these lies when the enemy tried to present
them to me again. I decided to put on the armor of God and fight back.
As I walked to my vehicle, I told the enemy I didn’t care if I was “good
enough”. All that mattered to me is that I am a child of God and in Jesus’
name he could flee. Immediately the enemy left, and I was filled with
peace. “Wow, I wish I would have known to do this before!” I thought to
myself. My mind was so full of peace that my drive home was enjoyable. I
was able to soak in the gold, orange, and fire red colors of fall around each
bend and curve in the road. If I didn’t resist the devil that day, I would have
felt lousy all the way home doubting my ability to do what God had called
me to do.
Fight Back with the Truth of God’s Word
I learned something new on this particular day. I didn’t have to allow the
enemy’s whisper of lies to penetrate my mind or heart. With the truth of
God’s word, I could fight back and tell the devil to go back to where he came
from in the name of Jesus. May you be encouraged to fight back at the
enemy any time he presents a lie to you. Writing down some of the lies he
presents to you will give you a visual of what he’s trying to do. To roam
about and kill, steal, and destroy those whom he may devour. We must recognize when the
enemy tries to trick us into believing his lies. Unlike the enemy, God’s words bring peace, truth,
and love.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Wonderful! And I’m glad you recognized the lies so quickly at your conference. That ought to make you feel encouraged, as well! Or maybe I should say, the Lord gave you discernment and now you are not ignorant of the enemy’s devices! Anyway, Praise the Lord! You shall overcome In His Name! ❤

I appreciate you sharing these truths with us today. You know the devil is not that smart, he uses the same old tactics over and over on all of us. Recognizing his patterns and resisting him helps us keep pressing on and draws us closer to God.
James 4:7-8
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you….”
